              Sanryoshi Sakai (1897-1967)


                           Japanese artist.
                           He was born in Fukushima Prefecture in 1897.
                           His real name was Saburo, and he also used the pen name Sanryoshi.
                           He moved to Tokyo in 1914, and around that time studied under Seiran Sakauchi.
                           Around 1916, he began studying Japanese painting
                           at the Japan Art Institute's research institute.
                           He was first selected for the 2nd Kokuga Sosaku Kyokai Exhibition in 1919,
                           and for the first time for the 8th Inten Exhibition in 1921.
                           He became a member of the Japan Art Institute in 1924,
                           and became one of the Institute's central artists.
