Harumi Tateishi (1908- 1994 )

     Japanese artist.
     Born in Saga Prefecture in 1908; his real name was Haruyoshi.
     Inspired to become a painter after encountering the works of Kiyokata,
     he moved to Tokyo in 1927. Although he sought to become Kiyokata's pupil
     through the introduction of Western-style painter Kango Kajiwara,
     he was unsuccessful in this attempt.
     The following year, in 1928, he joined the Shinsui Art Academy,
     where he studied Japanese-style painting under Shinsui Ito.
     He served as a juror for the Nitten Exhibition. He passed away in 1994 at the age of 85.
     He was renowned as a master of *bijin-ga* (paintings of beautiful women),
     following in the footsteps of Kiyokata Kaburaki and Shinsui Ito.
