Suio Genro (1717-1790)


  Suio Genro was a monk of the Myoshinji sect
  of the Rinzai of Buddhism in the mid-Edo period.
  He was a disciple of Hakuin Ekaku,
  and succeeded him as chief priest of Shoin-ji Temple in Numazu City,
  Shizuoka Prefecture.
  His secular name is unknown. His former name was Ebaku.
  He was also known as Ukishima Roshi.
  Along with Torei Enji, Daikyu Ebo, and Reigen Eto,
  he is one of the Four Heavenly Kings of Hakuin's disciples,
  and together with Torei, they are known
  as the Two Gods Kings of Hakuin's disciples.

    Kigyoku Kurokawa (1754|1814)

  A painter from the mid- to late Edo period. Born in Edo in 1764.
  He is said to be the adopted son of the first Kurokawa Kigyoku,
  but there is also a theory that he was the first's younger brother.
  He specialized in flower and bird paintings and landscape paintings.
  He died on January 25, 1818, at the age of 61.
  His real name was Matsuda. His given name was Hide.
  His pen name was Shiun. He was commonly known as Sazen.
  His other name was Shorokan.
