(Mizu o kumitewa Yma no ugku o utagai , Ho o agereba Kishi no yuku o oboyu)
When you are in a boat, it looks as if the shore is drifting away.
In reality, the boat is drifting away. Only when you stand on the unmoving shore,
with the mind of a Buddha, can you realize that it is your mind, your own mind,
that is moving, that is drifting away. In other words,
if you make your own mind the master, you will be distracted by your own moving mind and suffer throughout your life.
If you can make the unmoving mind of a Buddha the master,
then no matter how much your mind moves, you will no longer be distracted by it.
